The first match after the holiday break saw a warm up for the PG cup semi final with NICS visiting Ewarts.
Rink 1 saw John Mooney, Artie Rice, Freddie Murdock and Davy Hunter take on P Linton, T Edwards, B Mills and B Fox. A good start saw the visitors lead 6-3 after 5, but the tables were turned with the home side leading 11-8 at 10 ends. The game remained tight for the remainder, but the NICS boys couldn't get on terms and eventually lost 22-16.
Rink 2 had Derek Forsythe, Ronnie McDermott, Mansel Montgomery and Alan Montgomery face B Edwards, B Ewing, D Pithey and J Templeton. A slow start saw Al's men trail 5-1 after 5. A good run including lifting a 5 saw the score 10-6 to the visitors at 10 ends.The next few ends were shared withe the score 16-11 in NICS favour at 15 ends. A strong finish saw Al's rink secure their point winning 29-16.
Rink 3 saw Geoff McKinney, Albert Preston, JJ Leonard and Stanley Hegan challenge A Baillie, D Cunningham, S Cunningham and R McLean Jnr. A slow start saw Foxy's boys trail 4-2 at 5 ends. It got worse with the deficit growing to 9-2 at 7 ends and 11-6 at 10 ends. The comeback started with NICS scoring 18 shots unanswered over the next 8 ends to lead 20-11. The final score was 24-12.
Rink 4 saw Mark De Conink, Michael Bell, Ian Hutton and Brian Leonard take on M Murray, D Bell, T Mathers and H Magee. Honours were split over the first 5 ends with the score 6-6. The home team opened up a gap by the halfway stage to lead 13-8 and the deficit remained at 15 ends with the score 17-12. The NICS rink responded by winning the last 6 ends and the game 20-17.
