Seniors vs Willowfield PG league

After a lovely summers day in the opening match, normal bowling weather resumed with everyone getting soaked. NICS went to Gibson Park looking to get off the mark againts local rivals Willowfield.

Rink 2 had Geoff McKinney, Davy MacAleese, Ian Hutton and Brian Leonard take on J Frazer Snr, W Neill, J Martin and Mark Leckey. A tight start saw the score 5-3 to the home rink after 5 ends. It stayed close and at 13 ends it was 11-10 to Mark's rink. Mark Leckey started to played some vital bowls in the remaining 8 ends and although Brian could cut the deficit on a few occasions the game went away from the visitors. Final score 26-11.

Rink 3 saw David Payne, Billy McCullough, Mansel and Alan Montgomery face R Malcomson, E Davids, D Hiles and Jim Frazer Jnr. The home rink opened a slender 4-2 lead after 5 ends. Alan then got his rink going and they opened up a 12-5 lead after 13 ends. Alan's rink kept a lead for the remainder of the game, but without running away with it. A six in the final end saw the score finsh 23-12 to the visitors.

Rink 4 had Davy Hunter, Albert Preston, A Rice and Freddie Murdock take on M Murtagh, G Prully, K Drew and J McMullan. A good start saw Freddie open a 6-2 lead after 5 ends.The 4 shot lead was maintained until 13 ends when the score was 12-8. Freddie shaded the run in to win 19-13.

Rink 5 saw Derek Brown, Francis Bell, JJ Leonard and Stanley Hegan face M Gwynne, D Bell, J Millar and John Moore. A shocking start with a 5,3,3, to the home team saw an 11-0 lead open up after 3 ends. Things didn't get much better and after 13 ends the score was 20-3. There wasn't much to cheer about as the game finished 30-8.

A tough game in bad conditions leaves the Senior team looking for their first win after 2 games. One plus was the debut of David Payne who had a solid game leading for Alan.
