After the disappointment of the PG Cup Final loss NICS had to bounce back quickly to take on an Old Bleach team that was in the hunt for the league.
Rink 2 saw Geoff McKinney, Derek Forsythe, Mansel Montgomery, Alan Montgomery take on D Green, W Patton, B McGrath and Sammy Hall. After losing the first 2 ends Al's rink won the next 3 to lead 6-2 after 5. The next 5 ends went badly as Sammy's rink scored 10 unanswered to lead 12-6. The following 5 were even and the score was 12-17 after 15. The deficit had been cut to 3 after 19 ends before Al's 20th end hoodoo struck again as his rink dropped 5. The home rink didn't dwell on the disappointment and lifted 2 in the last end to keep hopes of a team victory alive. Final score 18-24.
Rink 3 had Mark De Conink, Derek Brown, Ian Hutton and Brian Leonard face WJ Millar, T Surgenor, T Rainey and James Talbot. The game started badly as James Talbot hit the head with a good 3 against him and came up with 4 shots. The next few ends were close and the score was 2-7 after 5 ends. The next 5 ends were shared and the score was 5-10 after 10 ends. A 3 in the 11th end saw the deficit cut, but unfortunately a 5 2 ends later more than wiped it out. The score was 9-18 after 15. The run in went badly as in the next 5 ends Old Bleach scored 13 shots unanswered. During this time James Talbot drew the shot to save 7 and converted a couple of other heads when NICS were lying. Brian was unable to counter. In the last end with the game lost, the home rink lifted 3 shots to lose 12-31.
Rink 4 saw Norman Shields, Francis Bell, JJ Leonard and Stanley Hegan take on W Scott, F Anderson, N McNally and Neil Booth. A 4 in the 3rd end helped Foxy only trail 4-5 after 5 ends. The next 5 ends were dominated by the home rink who led 13-5 after 10 ends. The following 5 ends were close and the score was 17-8 after 15 ends. Foxy's fella's continued their dominance winning the 5 of the last 6 ends to win 24-9.
Rink 5 had John Mooney, Davy Hunter, Artie Rice and Freddie Murdock face on R Talbot, I Harrison, B Trimble and Michael Nutt. A close 5 ends saw the home rink edge out to a 3-2 lead. The slim lead was extended as the score was 8-6 after 10 ends. The next 5 ends were dominated by Freddie's rink who led 15-7 after 15. The run in was close and the final score was 19-12.
Overall another good team performance against a top team. With a bit of luck this could have been another good scalp.
