Northern Ireland Civil Service
Bowling Club
The Northern Ireland Civil Service Bowling Club was founded on 15th November 1962, first playing in the Northern Ireland Private Greens League in 1963.
Civil Service Bowling Club has its own Bowling Pavilion at the Green, complete with kitchen, changing rooms and a meeting/dining room. Bar and restaurant facilities are available in the main Maynard Sinclair Pavilion a few yards away.
The club is open to both men and lady bowlers and has about 90 members. There is no requirement to be a Civil Servant, though several members are.
The Men's section of the club is affiliated to the Northern Ireland Private Greens League, while the Ladies section is affiliated to the Northern Ireland Womans Private Greens League.
NICS have enjoyed success in the recent past, with our Senior winning the Senior League in 2004, finishing runners up in the Irish Cup in 2005 and PG Cup in 2010. Our Ladies have won 5 PG League Titles in the past 15 years. The Vets won their League in 2009 and 2010. The Men's Midweek team won Division 2 of the Midweek league in 2010 and managed the fantastic achievement of going unbeaten all season.
The men play in the PGL Senior Div.2 (Saturdays), PGL Midweek Div. 1 (Wednesday evenings) and Veterans Bowling League (2 teams on Monday afternoons).
The ladies play in the Woman's PGL Division 1 (Thursday afternoon).
The green is usually open for play seven days a week. The green is maintained by a full-time greenkeeper who holds the title of 'European Groundsman of the Year 2009' as awarded by the ECB.
